Problem statement

Uber is a technology company that is changing the way the world thinks about transportation. We have been growing globally at an incredible pace and are scaling a hyper efficient revenue systems infrastructure.

Our revenue platform environment supports the needs of our customers (e.g. Rider, Driver, Eaters, Restaurants, etc.). A key to Uber’s success is to be able to accurately and completely account for all events on the Uber platform (e.g. trips, Eats orders), quickly and efficiently onboard new LOBs on the platform, flexibly support local business requirements across 70 countries / 700+ cities, scale and integrate with core financial applications, ensure operational effectiveness for our billing team, and provide financial data for business insights and P&L analysis downstream.

How would you ensure the platform is extensible for new customers, business models and acquisitions?

For Uber to expand rapidly across geographies and grow exponentially, it has to keep up with the customer base by ensuring its platform is ever-ready to accept new customers, business, and acquisitions.

Making the platform extensible

a. Onboarding experience

Enhancing User Experience via creating user-centric design and designing a smooth onboarding experience which reduces anxiety and makes waiting period less.

b. Go paperless

Uber platform can be designed to onboard new businesses & acquisitions without much of paper work and just through app/web platform and thus creating a hassle-free experience.

c. Multilingual

Uber is operating its business across 70+ countries and 700+ cities. Giving freedom to the Customer/Local business to choose the language of their choice in the Uber platform will drastically improve the customer onboarding experience.

d. Know your company

Uber should ensure that drivers know the expectations of the company. Creating a smooth onboarding and training experience within the Uber platform will help drivers achieve Uber’s goal.

e.Uber Care

A one-stop solution to resolve all queries related to driver on-boarding and business acquisitions. Placing Uber Center in the heart of cities where Uber operates and expands its business vertical will help local businesses and drivers to quickly on-board on Uber’s platform and fix their on-boarding issues in real time with the support of Uber care representatives.

f. Discounts & offers

Incentivising customers is a great way to attract a new pool of customers to experience the Uber platform. On a similar note, providing joining offers to new businesses opens a gateway to attract local businesses. Also, using the principle of economies of scale, capital spent can be earned back in due course of time.
